Machining a Standard bore and top

A Standard set up on a face plate, shown after boring and facing.

When setting the standard up on the faceplate, use a bar that fits into the standard and into the tailstock chuck, to centralise the casting as much as possible.

I had a drill with a morse taper that fitted the standard, so I was able to hold that in the tail stock while I aligned the standard.

I used a Tungsten tipped tool to bore the standard and to face the top.
